Located in the bustling heart of Shinsaibashi, Osaka, Honolu Grande Shinsaibashi opened in July 2024 as the flagship location of the renowned “Honolu” brand, best known for its Wagyu ramen.
In a district frequented by both domestic and international tourists, this restaurant stands out as a rare and welcoming space where guests can enjoy authentic Halal-certified Japanese cuisine with complete peace of mind.
The Honolu story began seven years ago, when the brand’s founder, Mr. Torii, heard from a Muslim friend that it was difficult to find places in Japan where they could dine without religious concerns.
Japan is a country blessed with high-quality ingredients—vegetables, seafood, and meats—and its cuisine is globally celebrated for its exceptional standards. Yet many Muslims are unable to fully enjoy Japanese food due to religious dietary restrictions.
This realization inspired Mr. Torii to create a restaurant where Muslims could also appreciate the richness of Japanese food culture without worry.
With this vision in mind, he established Honolu—a restaurant dedicated to offering Halal-compliant Japanese cuisine that can be trusted and enjoyed by all.
Today, the restaurant offers a diverse menu that ranges from gyukatsu and steak made with Halal-certified A5-grade Kobe beef and Kurohana beef from Kumamoto, to local Osaka specialties like takoyaki and okonomiyaki—all prepared in full accordance with Halal standards.
Led by chefs well-versed in both washoku and Halal culinary practices, the dishes reflect a refined harmony of Kansai’s dashi-based culture and the delicate aesthetics of traditional Japanese cuisine.
Every element—from the ingredients and seasonings to the utensils used—follows Halal guidelines with great care. The restaurant also features a dedicated prayer space and wudu facilities. With Muslim staff members on hand and a deep respect for diverse cultures and faiths, it offers a welcoming environment for international guests seeking peace of mind during their visit.
Muslim Smile
Shinsaibashi, located in the heart of Osaka, is a vibrant district where gourmet dining, shopping, and culture all come together. Constantly bustling with both domestic and international visitors, the area offers easy access to iconic spots such as the neon-lit Dotonbori, the youth-driven Americana vibes of Amemura (America-mura), and the luxury shopping street of Midosuji—all within walking distance.
For Muslim travelers, Shinsaibashi is also considered a convenient area, with nearby mosques and prayer spaces available. The ease of securing time and space for daily prayers makes it a favored destination for those seeking both cultural experiences and spiritual comfort.
In July 2024, Honolu Grande Shinsaibashi opened its doors in the heart of Shinsaibashi—one of Osaka’s most dynamic districts.
The Honolu brand was born seven years ago, inspired by a conversation between founder Mr. Torii and a Muslim friend who expressed the difficulty of finding places in Japan where they could dine with peace of mind.
Japan is blessed with an abundance of fresh ingredients—vegetables, seafood, and meat—and is globally renowned for the quality of its cuisine.
Yet despite this richness, many Muslim visitors find it hard to fully enjoy Japanese food due to religious dietary restrictions.
Moved by this reality, Mr. Shimai set out with a clear mission: to create a restaurant where Muslims can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine with confidence.
From that vision, Honolu began offering halal-friendly Japanese meals, grounded in both trust and hospitality.
Building on that founding vision, Honolu Grande Shinsaibashi has evolved to offer an even wider range of halal-certified wagyu dishes.
Guests can savor specialties like wagyu cutlets and steaks made with A5-grade Halal Kobe beef and Kurohana-gyu from Kumamoto Prefecture, as well as Honolu’s signature wagyu ramen—the dish that started it all.
Each plate is a unique wagyu experience you won’t find anywhere else, bringing together the rich sweetness of perfectly marbled beef, the smoky aroma of charcoal grilling, and the delicate depth of Japanese dashi broth.
The kitchen is led by Chef Morimoto, who brings deep expertise in both washoku (traditional Japanese cuisine) and Halal practices. Drawing on Osaka’s rich dashi (soup stock) culture and incorporating refined Japanese techniques, he crafts elegant dishes that appeal to all five senses.
The restaurant is equipped with a prayer space and a wudu (ablution) area, so guests never have to worry about finding a place to pray.
Muslim staff members are also part of the team, and the staff as a whole is knowledgeable and respectful of cultural and religious backgrounds.
English is spoken, and the environment is welcoming even for first-time visitors to Japan.
If you’re traveling and want to enjoy delicious food in a place you can trust, look no further than Honolu Grande Shinsaibashi.
Here, everything—from the halal-certified ingredients to the flavors, hospitality, and ambiance—reflects an unwavering commitment to quality.
Enjoy the best of Japanese cuisine with peace of mind, in a setting that truly understands and respects your needs.
